An operator protection equipment refers to a ductless hood, a workstation or an enclosure that pulls room air away from the operator and into the ductless hood, workstation or enclosure where it is then purified free of contaminants associated with the application. Operator protection equipment is the variety with internal negative air pressure and airflow patterns of vertical or horizontal laminar air as in most workstations and nonlaminar air as in fume hoods.

Carbon filtration is used to remove the chemical gases, vapors and fumes created in the chambers, while the HEPA/ULPA filtration is used to contain the aerosol and particulate.
